Assignment 13: Partner in your education
I feel that Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is a partner in my education because I have learned so much in the couple months I have been interning there. My knowledge in the medical field has drastically increased since the beginning of the year and I feel more prepared going into college. I will have excess knowledge over most of my peers in the medical feel because CHOA has helped partner in my education.
I have definitely learned about new jobs and careers in the medical field through CHOA. With my first rotation I was with an Orthotist/Prosthetist and learned that most people in this field work at health facilities such as CHOA, or in labs. In labs, they make and mold different braces and helmets specific to each patient. I am currently with a speech pathologist and learned that they can work in various places such as schools, hospitals, and pediatric care facilities like Children's Healthcare. I constantly ask my mentors what I can do for them to try and make their life easier. With my Orthotist/Prosthetist as a mentor, I helped organize braces and sort them by size. With my speech pathologist mentor, I help clean up games and equipment to get ready for the next patient.

Assignment 16: Written Proposal Draft
My knowledge and curiosity in the medical field is currently driving my research. Even though I have learned a lot in the past couple months at Children's Healthcare, I still urge to learn more. My essential question is still "What impact does early speech intervention have on a child and how do those interventions lead to a greater success in meeting their therapeutic goals?" My essential question has stayed the same because I am currently in the speech rehabilitation department. It might start to change as I begin to intern in sports medicine over the next couple of months. I think that I could envision publishing a pamphlet or creating an informative website for my capstone project. This would be an efficient way to display my knowledge from this internship. For my real inquiry I would like to ask questions and draw conclusions from the answers I have been given. Through this process I will learn from the answers I have received and connect it back to my internship.

To do well on the relevant presentation, it is essential to be prepared. If you already know the material backwards and forwards, it will not be as nerve racking. It is also important to hit on the key points of the presentation so the audience knows the main idea of your presentation. Additionally, have good posture and physicality. While having good posture, it makes you feel more confident and less anxious. While standing naturally, it will also help you breathe easier. Lastly, work the room and do not read straight off the power point.

During my Mentorship focusing on speech pathology in the rehabilitation department, I was able to find evidence to help answer my essential question: What impact does early speech intervention have on a child and how do those interventions lead to a greater success in meeting their therapeutic goals? The scope of this field was essentially helping children meet their therapeutic goals regarding any speech problems they might have. Ultimately, each child is different, but it is definitely important to diagnose early on. I have learned that the earlier the child is diagnosed, the quicker they can improve their speech because a child's brain is developing more when they are younger. I have enjoyed my Mentorship this year and would love to continue to become a speech pathologist in the future.
Assignment 26: Mentorship Reflection
Throughout this mentorship at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, I have learned so much in the year I participated in this program. I really enjoyed going through three different departments to see which one most interested me. In orthotics and prosthetics, I learned about the different braces and artificial limbs pertaining to certain injuries. In speech pathology, I learned various speech exercises to help children improve their language. In physical therapy, I learned the different exercises patients do to help improve their injuries and get them strong again.
This mentorship has helped prepare me for the future because I will have prior knowledge of the medical field going into college. My experience has also taught me which areas I like in CHOA, and which I prefer not to work with. I would encourage the next students that want participate in HMP, to pick somewhere to work that they are interested in. I would also encourage them to be proactive and ask many questions because it would help them get the most out of the program.
FROM MY MENTORSHIP, I HOPE TO GAIN NEW KNOWLEDGE IN THE MEDICAL FIELD THAT I CAN USE PAST HIGH SCHOOL AND INTO COLLEGE. THROUGH THIS MENTORSHIP, I WANT TO LEARN TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS AND THE ABILITY TO WORK EFFECTIVELY WITH OTHERS. THROUGHOUT MY COUPLE WEEKS INTERNING, MY PERCEPTION OF CHILDREN'S HEALTHCARE OF ATLANTA HAS DEFINITELY CHANGED. I HAVE SEEN HOW MUCH THIS ORGANIZATION TRULY CARES ABOUT THEIR PATIENTS. THEY SPENT LOTS OF TIME MAKING BRACES, AND FINDING THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT SPECIFIC TO EACH INDIVIDUAL PATIENT. I HAVE BEEN SURPRISED HOW MUCH I HAVE LEARNED SO FAR THROUGH THIS INTERNSHIP. SOME OF MY KNOWLEDGE I HAVE GAINED HAS HELPED ME IN ANATOMY, AND IT IS COOL TO SEE THIS KNOWLEDGE BEING APPLIED.

I AM MENTORING AT THE CHILDREN'S HEALTHCARE OF ATLANTA AND ROTATING TO THREE DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS: ORTHOTICS AND PROSTHETICS, REHAB, AND SPORTS MEDICINE WITH MARK, KAREN, AND CHRIS. I JUST COMPLETED 6 WEEKS IN MY FIRST ROTATION OF ORTHOTICS AND PROSTHETICS. I HAVE GAINED VALUABLE INSIGHT INTO THE MEDICAL FIELD OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS. THIS INTERNSHIP SO FAR HAS DEFINITELY INCREASED MY INTEREST IN THE O&P DEPARTMENT. Assignment 13: Partner in your education
I feel that Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is a partner in my education because I have learned so much in the couple months I have been interning there. My knowledge in the medical field has drastically increased since the beginning of the year and I feel more prepared going into college. I will have excess knowledge over most of my peers in the medical feel because CHOA has helped partner in my education.
I have definitely learned about new jobs and careers in the medical field through CHOA. With my first rotation I was with an Orthotist/Prosthetist and learned that most people in this field work at health facilities such as CHOA, or in labs. In labs, they make and mold different braces and helmets specific to each patient. I am currently with a speech pathologist and learned that they can work in various places such as schools, hospitals, and pediatric care facilities like Children's Healthcare. I constantly ask my mentors what I can do for them to try and make their life easier. With my Orthotist/Prosthetist as a mentor, I helped organize braces and sort them by size. With my speech pathologist mentor, I help clean up games and equipment to get ready for the next patient.

My knowledge and curiosity in the medical field is currently driving my research. Even though I have learned a lot in the past couple months at Children's Healthcare, I still urge to learn more. My essential question is still "What impact does early speech intervention have on a child and how do those interventions lead to a greater success in meeting their therapeutic goals?" My essential question has stayed the same because I am currently in the speech rehabilitation department. It might start to change as I begin to intern in sports medicine over the next couple of months. I think that I could envision publishing a pamphlet or creating an informative website for my capstone project. This would be an efficient way to display my knowledge from this internship. For my real inquiry I would like to ask questions and draw conclusions from the answers I have been given. To do well on the relevant presentation, it is essential to be prepared. If you already know the material backwards and forwards, it will not be as nerve racking. It is also important to hit on the key points of the presentation so the audience knows the main idea of your presentation. Additionally, have good posture and physicality. While having good posture, it makes you feel more confident and less anxious. While standing naturally, it will also help you breathe easier. Lastly, work the room and do not read straight off the power point.

During my Mentorship focusing on speech pathology in the rehabilitation department, I was able to find evidence to help answer my essential question: What impact does early speech intervention have on a child and how do those interventions lead to a greater success in meeting their therapeutic goals? The scope of this field was essentially helping children meet their therapeutic goals regarding any speech problems they might have. Ultimately, each child is different, but it is definitely important to diagnose early on. I have learned that the earlier the child is diagnosed, the quicker they can improve their speech because a child's brain is developing more when they are younger. I have enjoyed my Mentorship this year and would love to continue to become a speech pathologist in the future.

Throughout this mentorship at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, I have learned so much in the year I participated in this program. I really enjoyed going through three different departments to see which one most interested me. In orthotics and prosthetics, I learned about the different braces and artificial limbs pertaining to certain injuries. In speech pathology, I learned various speech exercises to help children improve their language. In physical therapy, I learned the different exercises patients do to help improve their injuries and get them strong again.
This mentorship has helped prepare me for the future because I will have prior knowledge of the medical field going into college. My experience has also taught me which areas I like in CHOA, and which I prefer not to work with. I would encourage the next students that want participate in HMP, to pick somewhere to work that they are interested in. I would also encourage them to be proactive and ask many questions because it would help them get the most out of the program.
